I believe there is no greater quality ~ than the act of kindness. Being kind creates a true sense of happiness and satisfaction.

Share your kindness. Just a small act of kindness can impact our world. Our actions shape the way we are living. Different actions create different results; acts of anger and aggression will bring hatred and fighting, acts of genuine kindness will evoke love and compassion.

Performing acts of kindness encourages others to be kind, producing a ripple effect ~ a circle of kindness. Kindness can spread. Be kind.

Anything & Everything is Possible with the New Full Moon in Virgo

Today Tuesday 23 Feb 2016 (22 Feb in Europe & America) marks the New Full Moon in Virgo. The actual days of the Full Moon are generally the liveliest, revelatory, and emotionally charged periods of the moon cycle. Exactly how I’m presently feeling!

 

Full Moons are a time when we can feel extremely sensitive to the pushing and pulling energy of two opposing signs, in this case it is the polarity of Virgo and Pisces. During this process we facilitate changes within our lives and we release what no longer serves us. Under Virgo we learn to perfect our natural talents in our service to the world. I read today that the Virgo brings practice and discipline into everyday, and she keeps her body pure, as she regards it as her holy temple. Hence, we can anticipate greater faith and practice during this lunar sequence.

 

Significantly, this Full Moon February 2016 is the final moon phase in an eclipse chain, which began in September 2015. We have literally come full circle. It is a period in which all projects that we’ve started come to completion. The Virgo Full Moon is a time of relinquishing old, stagnant energy. It is essential that we set an intention to let go of the ‘old’ and move forward into the ‘new’. Cutting free from any chords that no longer serve our purpose. The theme of completion fits perfectly with the final moon cycle. Sigh!

The planet of Jupiter aligns closely to Virgo during this phase bringing new opportunities, either in matters of love or financial. A leap of faith will serve us well. It also indicates the healing of a broken heart. It may be a love relationship, friendship or parent relationship that has been a source of inner pain. Whether it be a separation or a continuing toxic relationship, it is the moment for us to take back our power. A time to set healthy boundaries and release all old patterns of expired relationships. Outstanding emotional issues need to be discharged so we can start our new journey with no baggage (or as least as possible!).

Honour yourself and stand in the light of your BEAUTIFUL LOVING BEING. Embrace all that is coming with this New Full Moon in Virgo.

TEACHING OUR CHILDREN “INTUITION” ….

Carl Jung said: “Intuition is a function by which you see round corners” and it was Albert Einstein who once said that intuition is our most valuable asset, and one of our most unused senses. My youngest daughter in my book, Little Angels, describes intuition as a voice deep inside her tummy that tells her when she should or shouldn’t do something. She claims that this voice inside is always right. Page 6 of my book, depicts this very daughter contemplating climbing a bookcase to fetch a ball, that we had purposely placed up high. In reality she did climb the shelves, lost her balance and created a disarray of books, photo frames and cushions. When I walked into the room she said, ‘Mamma, my tummy was telling me not to climb, but I didn’t listen to it’. I smiled as I realised the importance of her acknowledging her own ability to judge between what was right and what was wrong. We have always encouraged our children to listen to this inner voice, their gut-feeling, their judgment connected to their feelings rather than their analytical mind – to rely on their inner voice that ‘just knows’.

How many times have you had a random thought, response or impression that you should do or shouldn’t do something, only to later find out that your sensitivity was completely accurate? For some married couples, it took just one look to recognise their soul mate. Have you ever had a gut instinct about a situation and not listened to yourself but later reflected you wish you had? These flashes are familiar to everyone. Intuition is natural, a part of all of us. Intuition will tell you intimate and important things nobody else will—and it will also tell you things your own mind will argue with.

 

Intuition is a vital life skill set and I’m passionate about educating our children to rely upon this inner wisdom. For each of us, as our life story unfolds, with its plots and twists, highs and lows, times of difficulties and choices – simply going with our ‘gut’ can be the make or break of our navigation. Teaching our children from a young age to instinctively consult their inner wisdom prepares them for the wide world beyond. During their challenging teenage years of vulnerability, confusion, self-consciousness, fast-pace; intuition can be the key skillset that averts potentially damaging choices.

 

One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is to teach them to trust their intuition. This gift will be one of their strongest protections, empowering them through life’s crises and curve balls. Intuition will be what gets our children through.

No Time for Meditation?

_10751Meditation quite literally changed my life! To be honest, five years ago, the very concept of sitting in a lotus position, ‘zenned out’ in a serene state, chanting “OM” mystified me. In that previous life, I was conditioned into a state of ‘hurry’. Squeezing an early morning exercise regime, organising children for school, work, shopping, dinner, homework, folding washing all into a daily routine. How could I possibly entertain the notion of sitting for a period of time, empting my mind of the endless ‘to do’ lists and take mindful deep breathes? No way!

A close girlfriend invited me to join a local meditation group. She promised me that I’d love it, so I tagged along. I remember walking into the hall and being struck instantly by the light energy. There were gentle whispers, people shuffling to get comfortable, welcoming nods and then I saw our teacher sitting framed in her beautiful, glowing aura. The guided class transported me. I entered a state of blissful calm. From that very first experience I was hooked. I read everything I could on ‘meditation’ and all the different practises. I attended classes and workshops. The real change for me came from my own dedication to my daily practise.

I write this piece to urge you too to find the time from your extremely busy, time-poor lives to invest 10 minutes a day or every second or third day, to yourself. I have been in this space. I get it, but the self-transformation is worth every dedicated minute.

Regular practise embraces a plethora of benefits, such as:

  • Stress management
  • Boosts our immune system
  • Combats illness
  • Slows our rate of ageing

Meditation invites mindfulness into our daily life, where we can cease monitoring the content of our daily thoughts. Flicking off our ‘auto-pilot’ button and being present in the HERE and NOW. Meditation provides time for reflection and planning. Meditation is a powerful and life changing tool.

So here is the simple practise I adopted into my own busy schedule:

  • Find a place. Quiet. Uncluttered without distractions.
  • Mornings are best straight from sleep. Your body in this state is far easier to discipline (but choose a time that works best in your day).
  • Start with 10 minutes (you can build this over time, 10 mins is perfect when starting).
  • Sit crossed legged on a cushion with your hands resting gently in your lap. Keep your back straight. Sit in a chair if you cannot comfortably sit on the floor.
  • Gently close your eyes and concentrate on the tip of your nose.
  • Have a statement prepared. An affirmation that brings meaning to your practise. It could simply be ‘I am happy’ or ‘my day today will flow effortlessly’ or ‘I am grateful’.
  • Breathe in gently through your nose. A long, unrushed inhalation. Draw your breathe as far into your belly as you can. Hold it.
  • Exhale, slowly with purpose (conscious breathing slows down your metabolic rate). As you exhale count ‘1’.
  • Then ‘2’, ‘3’, ‘4’ all the way to ‘22’. I chose ‘22’ as my number; you can choose ‘10’ if that works better. If I was distracted by mind chatter and lost my focused count, I would start over from ‘1’.
  • Thoughts will come in and out of your mind. This is part of the process. Let the thoughts enter and leave. Constantly bring your attention back to the breath and the count. Over time this simple practise will become easier and easier.
  • You will find the practise profoundly calming. Start to deepen your awareness. Notice the pause between breathes. Embrace the stillness.
  • Finish your practise by repeating your intention or affirmation.

I challenge you to try it. Take just 10 minutes each day for YOU. Find that inner peace that we are all seeking. Once you’ve started, the changes in your life will become abundant.

A FULL MOON occurs on Wednesday, November 25, 2015.

Feeling like you want to BREAK FREE? The New Moon this week is here to help. The Gemini Moon exactly opposes the Sagittarius Sun, creating a conflict between; Gemini representing the “lower mind” and Sagittarius representing the “higher mind”. The Gemini aspect encourages us to think logically, and the Sagittarius perspective entices us to think ‘outside of the box’. So, we may feel quote juxtaposed with our internal thoughts, (perhaps over thinking), with a feeling of plunging, stepping out, going BIG. This Full Moon is about communication, our attitude, and the enticement of our adventurous side. Something has been building inside of us, pinning us down, and now the new Full Moon will help us let go and let it out. This is a brilliant Moon to release, what no longer serves us. The next two weeks, we will discover what this means for each us. In the meantime, we must navigate this new terrain, talking things out and listening well.

How To Help Your Child Find Their True Purpose

The word dharma resonates deeply within me. Put most simply, our dharma is our true-life purpose. Our calling. I believe we all possess a unique gift that we are intended to share in this physical lifetime.

I remember the recently passed, Wayne Dyer, talking about one’s dharma and it struck a personal chord. He explained a bumblebee knows what it has been born to do. “To bumble and do what bees do” and that a tree knows its life purpose, as does the beautiful rose. He went on to say, that as humans we tend to interfere and divert from our natural purpose. I have witnessed this in my own life, we can cross paths with our intended journey, we can claim it, we can flirt with it and sometimes sadly we can miss our calling all together.

I remind my own children regularly, that they each have a special talent to share with our world. It is crucial message, setting a foundation to their individual life journeys.  Quite consciously, I remove pressure and expectations from their respective achievements and performances. I encourage that they try a myriad of varying opportunities, to experiment and see what resonates with their true spirit. The special “thing” that each child is intended to share, that ‘magic’, that ‘unique gift’, I trust will naturally weave its way into their existence. We must as parents be careful in our coaching and guidance. Our own expectations, even our own unfulfilled dreams or desires can impose limitations or restrictions upon our child’s authentic purpose.

My eldest daughter recently showed me a maths test result. I praised her achievement and talked through the particular unit of maths. She expressed her concern that two of her friends received a higher score and that maths was a subject she really has to apply herself to. The look of concern on her little face worried me. I asked her why she was so distracted over her friends’ scores. She explained that with the commitment she had invested into this subject, she had expected she would have achieved similar results. I asked her;

“Do you enjoy maths?”

“Not really, the formulas and equations are just so difficult. It doesn’t feel easy. I wish I didn’t have to study maths.”

“How can we help you?”

“I don’t need help. I’m passing. I’m not really worried, just frustrated Mum.”

“What else are you studying that feels more natural to you?’ I asked.

“That’s easy”, she replied. “There’s a heap. I love writing, persuasive text is my favourite. Science thrills me. There’s something so fascinating about the Chinese language. My horse riding lessons never seem long enough. And sprinting, my legs have a mind of their own, and I run fast.”

I wrapped my arms around her and reassured her that these pursuits were her natural tendencies. “You don’t have to be good at everything. Accept your maths results. Don’t compare yourself to others. You need to find what makes YOU, YOU.”
